According to a recent article in the Daily Mail one in three new mums on maternity leave has harmed her chan
ces of promotion, and this comes from research from the Research Institute of Industrial Economics.
The figures add up to 32% of women, who feel that on their return to work after maternity leave they hit a ‘maternal wall’ which affects their chances of promotion. In addition to this, 31% of returning mums feel that their professional relationship with their bosses has declined as a direct result of maternity leave.

Yes, I am very worried too about this as I am due back to work in May and wonder if my job will be safe! I keep thinking will my responsibilities have disappeared – will i keep the same post? Will there have been lots of changes?
I suppose though this happens not only to women on maternity leave, but both men and women when they take a certain amount of time off. I mean should we expect the same job when we come back?
It’s such a difficult topic. Time and time again we’re told that we can now have it all and we try our best to be everything to everyone but still there are hills and obstacles and they just don’t ever seem to get any smaller.
If you’ve worked hard for the job you have then I don’t see why you shouldn’t be entitled to the same job when you get back if you’re able to give it the same 100% as before, in my opinion anyway!
